Here are brief descriptions of this term’s French-language films:
«Anthony Zimmer» (2005): In Paris, the international police force and the Russian mafia are chasing Anthony Zimmer, accused of laundering money in France. Zimmer has had extensive plastic surgery, and the only means to reach him is through his mistress Chiara (Sophie Marceau), who is under surveillance by the police. While traveling by train in the South of France, an unsuspecting François Taillandier (Yvan Attal), who by chance distinctly resembles Zimmer, is spotted by Chiara, who decides to use him to trick her pursuers.
«La moustache» (2005): Marc (Vincent Lindon) and Agnes (Emmanuelle Devos) are a successful Parisian couple who have been together for many years. One evening, before joining friends for dinner, Marc decides on a whim to shave off the mustache that he has worn all of his adult life. He waits for his wife's reaction, but neither she nor his friends seem to notice. Stranger still, when he finally tells them, they all insist he never had a mustache. Is Marc going mad?
«Les rivières pourpres» (2000): Parisian homicide detective Pierre Niémans (Jean Reno) travels to an isolated university town in the Alps to solve the murder of 32-year-old professor and librarian Rémy Caillois, while local police inspector Max Kerkerian (Vincent Cassel) is investigating the desecration of the tomb of a young girl killed 20 years ago. When the detectives discover that the incidents are related, they decide to join forces.
«De battre mon coeur s’est arrêté» (2005): Twenty-eight-year-old Tom (Romain Duris) leads a life that might be called ‘criminal’ and, in doing so, he follows in the footsteps of his father, who made his money from shady real estate deals. At a critical juncture in his life, Tom meets a Chinese piano teacher who helps him become a concert pianist, like his mother. As he slowly changes his life and tries to find true love, his dubious past comes to light.
