Each spring, students from UCSB’s French & Italian and Germanic & Slavic departments come together for a spirited tradition: the annual Italia-Germania soccer match. This year's highly anticipated game took place on a sunny May afternoon, drawing a lively crowd of players and supporters alike.
In a unique twist for 2025, the Italian team joined forces with French students, while the German team was bolstered by the Slavic students by showcasing not only athletic talent but also cross-cultural camaraderie. The match was a nail-biter from start to finish, filled with enthusiastic chants, quick footwork, and undeniable team spirit. Ultimately, gli Azzurri triumphed with a hard-fought 4–3 victory, securing bragging rights until next year.
Grazie mille to everyone who participated, supported, and celebrated with us. Events like these remind us that language and culture go hand in hand with a healthy dose of friendly competition!
